Meghan Trainor Beauty standards conflict

This is a bit off topic but over the last few months I have noticed that Meghan Trainor has been copping a bit of flack for her song "All About That Bass" and I think it is stupid how blown out of proportion a songs lyrics can be taken.

I have the super-power of understanding so I can understand where they are coming from in writing this article but it doesn't sit well with me on how they are taking it.
To me, a song is a way of expressing your inner feelings like poetry or a story. And no body ALWAYS thinks like an angel. In all honesty, when I way going through the tougher stages of adolescences as a chubby young lady I often felt put-down for my size so internally I held a grudge against those who were smaller than I. I admit that in my head (and sometimes verbally) I used terms like "skinny bitch" and more commonly "twig". I'm not proud of it but that was my past, and in growing up you do lots that you aren't proud of. So taking Trainor's words to mean that skinny figures are lesser than their more "curvy" counterparts is wrong. She is just expressing one way of looking at life through the eyes of a larger girl struggling through body issues who's mother is trying to help her accept herself and understand that there are guys out there who will be attracted to her, as there is guys out there attracted to thinner women. Her references to thinner sizes is an emotional outburst.

And if you think about this song as a negative towards thinner body figures then you have to think about every song as a contradiction to something.
Take all the songs about sex, so you have to be having sex or you are not cool? NO. Your sexuality and sexual choices are yours to make on your own, find what works for you and stick with it.
Songs about Boyfriends and perfect relationships, you are nobody unless you are in a relationship? NO! Sometimes we are at our strongest when we are independent, and sometimes we need a little help.
Songs are one take on life but we should not take them as gospel, if you do then that is on you, not the singer or writer. It is entertainment.

Be independent minds and accept yourself.
